We saw in Luke 22 that Jesus planned His last Passover with His disciples. He allowed Judas to betray him, and He prayed for Peter, knowing that he would deny Him. Jesus also prayed that He, himself would be spared this “cup”…the cross…but He never veered from submitting to the will of God.
Now we will see how Jesus answers his accusers. We will see who mocks Him, and who weeps for him. Was there anyone to defend Him? And who were those guys shouting “Crucify Him!” Join us as we study how Jesus fulfilled His Passion and His Purpose….for us!
Our study from Luke on end times was interesting. We found that Jesus gave many words of encouragement as he presented some grim predictions for the future. We were encouraged to be ready and watchful, to expect God to provide for all your needs and to trust Him for the words to say and for our salvation.
Now we will be seeing how Jesus prepares for His ultimate purpose. What does he tell his disciples? What does he do and what is his attitude? Share your insights into His thoughts and actions at this time and how does this instruct you?
We had a wonderful Bible Study on Luke 20 this week! Wish you were there!
Ladies you are all a wonderful blessing. You study the Word and come prepared to share God’s wisdom with all of us. Thank you.
Yesterday, we saw the Pharisees “schooled” by Jesus! It was a thrill to see the wisdom of our Lord and the manner in which he answered his antagonists.
The principle learned: Answer a question with a question!
If you can redirect your accuser in a way which forces him to explain his position, you have gently but decisively deflected an attack.
We also saw the kindness and the severity of our God who judges. Fear the Lord!
Pay your taxes and show respect to those in authority over you.
The most exciting lesson we learned was that there IS a resurrection. Jesus demonstrated the certainty of this and gave us hope and more motivation to share Him with our loved ones.
Now we will be studying Luke 21. Jesus gives details about the end times that he wants his followers to be prepared with. This promises to be an interesting discussion. Read ahead and share your findings here. We can get a head start.
Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to make your calling and election sure, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall. For in this way there will be richly provided for you an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. 2 Peter 1:10 & 11 (ESV)
Last Sunday we learned that Peter, facing imminent death, felt compelled to pass on a comforting truth, a doctrine, to his loved ones. His desire was to fortify them with a hidden, yet very real promise from the Bible, which they could build their lives upon in the face of this world’s toughest trials.
Peter reminded them that God had chosen them, because He loved them and wanted them for His own, long before the creation. Although they already knew and were established in this truth, it was his desire that they experience an abiding assurance of God’s purpose for them. You and I can be sure, as well. But, how? By choosing to grow in grace, through cooperating with God in the process of our sanctification… our becoming more and more like our hero, Jesus. Walter Elwell has this to say in the Baker Dictionary of Theology concerning God’s choosing or election and our appropriate response:
human beings may trust God to do what is right [in election], and our highest good is to choose the will of God for ourselves.
It is a good thing to have that assurance that God not only called, but has chosen us for salvation. We can enjoy that assurance as we yield to His Spirit and the instruction of His Word, resulting in the working out of God’s will in our lives.
Alright Ladies. Our new goal is to discuss the chapter as we study it. So, this week we will be studying Luke Chapter 20. I look forward to reading what the Lord is teaching all of you as you study through this chapter.
It was brought to my attention, and I totally agree, that we should be discussing as we study. So, this week we are studying Luke Chapter 19. I don’t want to miss discussing it together on this blog. So, Today and Tuesday I wanted to open the conversation about Chapter 19, and then on Wednesday we will open the conversation about chapter 20 so that we can begin discuss as we work thorough our study.
In Chapter 19, Jesus has finally made it to Jerusalem. The last several chapters have made a point of noting that Jesus was on His way to Jerusalem, and now He is finally here. The King has entered the city. The people rejoice. What happens next is rich with lessons for all of us, and I am anxious to hear what the Lord has been teaching all you Ladies from this section.
We do hope that all of you can join us on Tuesday morning from 9:30 -11:30am. We cherish your presence and your input. However, we know that for some it’s just not possible for you to be with us in person, but we know that you are with us in spirit.
